The Institution Of The Eucharist 

Holy/Maundy Thursday is the day for the commemoration of the last supper of the Lord Jesus Christ. it is where Jesus established the sacrament of communion prior to his arrest and crucifixion. it is also commemorate the institution of the Priesthood. The Holy day falls before Easter in this part of Holy Week. Jesus celebrate the dinner as a Passover priest.

"And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake [it], and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup [is] the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you." - Luke 22:19-20

As Christ is preparing for the fulfillment of the prophecies namely as his final sacrifice, His Passion. this would allow all Christians to be save.

last supper is the final meal Christ shared for his disciples in the Jerusalem. During the meal, Jesus predicts his betrayal.  The central observance of the Holy Thursday is ritual reenactment of the Last Supper at mass. 




"The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? For we [being] many are one bread, [and] one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread." - 1 Corinthians 10:16-17
